1973. Arapiles. One of the most prolific pioneers of early Victorian climbing was Chris Dewhirst. At his peak (around 1973/4) he was responsible for some of the most difficult climbs in Australia. Chris is also reputed to have been the first Australian climber to use chalk. This photo of him in the Pines at Mt Arapiles was taken around 1973 by Geoff Gledhill.
