Mark Moorhead on London Calling
1981. Mark Moorhead working the first ascent of London Calling (26) at Arapiles. Mark was pretty keen to tick this route but kept falling off the crux moves. Word got around that he had 'enhanced' a couple of crucial pockets on the crux and got the route soon afterwords. On the surface Mark was very easy going about his climbing, often down-playing his own creations. In reality he was a very serious and methodical climber and was one of the most impressive climbers of his generation. His tragic death on Makalu's Southwest Ridge in 1984 was a massive blow to the Australian climbing scene.
